Ambition to Action: A Climate League 2030 Forum

12 May, 2021

On 11 May 2021, Climate League 2030 held its first forum for participants and supporters to share, learn and discuss progress on the actions being taken to support deeper Australian emissions reductions by the end-of-the-decade.

The Ambition to Action: A Climate League 2030 Forum was an important opportunity to learn more about Climate League 2030’s impact to date, the progress reporting framework currently under development and how to get involved.

The forum heard from Australian lead authors of the seventh major assessment by the UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change due out in mid- and late-2021. This was followed presentations and updates from initiative participants on the actions they are taking to support the 230×2030 goal.

The forum was held as 2030 emissions reduction goals were put firmly back on the national and international agenda. In April, the United States committed to a 50-52 per cent cut in its emissions from 2005 levels, and Japan and Canada looking followed suit with stronger end-of-decade targets. Other nations, including South Korean and New Zealand, also vowed to deliver more ambition in the lead up to COP26 in Glasgow.
